OSRS Wiki Live Prices

01What it does

The OSRS Wiki shows Grand Exchange prices, but those values are cached and can be hours — or days — out of date. This extension quietly replaces them with the live hourly average pulled from the official OSRS Wiki real-time prices API, and shows you how much each price has moved.

02How to use it

1. Install the extension for Chrome (also Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers) or Firefox.
2. Open any supported wiki page (see the list below). The extension recognises the page automatically — there is nothing to switch on.
3. Read the live prices. A moment after the page loads, prices are rewritten in place and a delta is shown next to each one.
4. Interact freely. Switching an item's variant, changing a money-making guide's kills/hour, or re-running a calculator re-injects the live prices automatically.

Prices are cached in your browser for about 5 minutes (item data for 1 hour) so repeated visits stay fast and gentle on the API. Nothing is stored anywhere except your own browser.

04Understanding the delta views

Wherever a page already showed a price, the extension keeps the original layout but swaps in the live value and adds a small delta pill — the difference between the live value and the value the wiki had cached. The pill has two parts that read independently: an arrow for which way the number moved, and a colour for whether that move is good or bad for you.

• The first number is the live value (keeping the wiki's own colour). The pill beside it is the delta versus the wiki's cached price.
• The arrow shows the number's direction: ▲ it went up, ▼ it went down.
• The colour shows whether that is good or bad for you: green is good, red is bad. Because that depends on the column, a cheaper cost is a green ▼, a pricier cost is a red ▲, and more profit is a green ▲.
• Average price is the midpoint of the hourly high (instant-sell) and low (instant-buy) prices — i.e. (high + low) / 2. Items not traded in the last hour fall back to the most recent trade.
• For profit calculations the 2% Grand Exchange sell tax (capped at 5M per item) is applied to outputs, so the numbers reflect what you'd actually bank.
• A delta of 0 shows no pill, so untouched values mean the live price already matched the wiki.
• When the extension can't reprice a figure it usually just leaves the wiki's own number in place. For items known to be off the Grand Exchange, it instead shows a grey untradeable pill so you know the figure can't be a live GE price. Hover it for the exact reason.

05Known limitations

A few things the extension deliberately doesn't try to price:

• Spell & weapon-cast costs — e.g. a Death Charge or Dark Demonbane cast isn't priced.
• Containers & grouped items — things with "underlying" items such as caskets, or a Yama Dossier, are left alone.
• Custom wiki labels/logic on money making pages may not be recognised and are skipped rather than mis-priced.

06Privacy

The extension uses no browser-account or history APIs. It reads only the wiki page you're on and makes price requests to prices.runescape.wiki — the official OSRS Wiki real-time prices API. There are no analytics, no third-party servers, and no data leaves your machine.
